A Bristol County man who was shot by police faced a judge on Friday.

According to Police Chief Richard McQuade, at approximately 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, North Attleboro Police Department Officers responded to the Red Roof Inn located at 60 Forbes Boulevard in Mansfield, MA.

The Officers were on scene to serve outstanding arrest warrants to Kevin Burke of North Attleboro. Burke was located by Officers who then attempted to arrest him. Instead of surrendering when confronted by the Officers, he fled in his motor vehicle. An Officer was dragged by the fleeing motor vehicle, endangering the life of the Officer.

A second North Attleboro Police Officer discharged his weapon at Burke as he fled.

Burke was taken into custody a short time later, without further incident, in North Attleboro.

Burke sustained a superficial gunshot wound to his arm. He was treated for this injury at the hospital and was then released into police custody.

Three North Attleboro Officers were also injured during this incident. All have been released from the hospital and are thankfully expected to make a full recovery.

Burke was held without bail Friday pending a detention hearing scheduled for next Friday.

He is facing several charges including Assault & Battery with a Dangerous Weapon, Reckless Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Operating a Motor Vehicle-License Revoked, Assault & Battery on a Police Officer, Possess to Distribute Class B Drug-Subsequent Offense, Possess Class B Drug, and Trafficking More Than 10 Grams of Fentanyl.
