Massachusetts man arrested for package theft after allegedly following FedEx truck

EAST BRIDGEWATER — Chief Michael Jenkins reports that the East Bridgewater Police Department arrested one man and are seeking an arrest warrant for a second suspect in connection with a recent package theft.

On Thursday, at just before 2:00 p.m., East Bridgewater Police officers responded to a home on Stonegate Drive for a report that an iPhone 15 Pro was stolen from a doorstep immediately after it was delivered. The theft was captured on a home surveillance camera.

Through an initial investigation, police developed information that the suspect was driving a white Toyota Scion xB on the day of the theft.

East Bridgewater Police contacted West Bridgewater Police to check its license plate recognition system for a white Toyota Scion xB that may have passed by one of the license plate recognition cameras in town on Sept. 5, the day of the theft. West Bridgewater Police confirmed that a vehicle matching the description with the same unique identifiers as the one seen on surveillance video in East Bridgewater was observed and they were able to identity a license plate number.

East Bridgewater Police put out an alert to area law enforcement agencies to be on the lookout for the vehicle and the vehicle was located and stopped by the Massachusetts State Police a short time later.

Through the subsequent investigation, police determined that 38-year-old Arialdys Arias of Dorchester had allegedly been following a FedEx truck that was making deliveries in the neighborhood. He was arrested on Monday by East Bridgewater Police.

East Bridgewater Police are seeking an arrest warrant for a second suspect who was inside the vehicle with Arias that day and allegedly participated in the theft.

Arias was arrested and charged with Larceny over $1,200 and Conspiracy.

He is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday in Brockton District Court.

“This was phenomenal investigative police work, where we utilized license plate recognition cameras from West Bridgewater Police,” Chief Jenkins said. “I would like to commend the officers and detectives who worked diligently and swiftly to identify the suspects in this case.”
