14-year-old killed on Cape Cod after vehicle hits trailer on roadside

SOUTH YARMOUTH, Mass. – The Yarmouth Police Department is investigating a vehicle crash that left a 14-year-old fatally injured.

Shortly after 1 p.m. on Friday, Yarmouth Police received multiple 911 calls reporting a person was pinned between a boat and the vehicle towing it on North Main Street, just South of the Great Western Road intersection. Officers responded to the scene and Yarmouth Fire Department’s Heavy Rescue was requested.

A truck towing a boat trailer had pulled to the side of the roadway with a broken axle. Passengers had got out to attempt to fix it. A Cadillac Sport Utility Vehicle traveling South on North Main Street struck the boat trailer from behind, causing it to hit the people working on the damaged axle.

As a result of the crash, a 14-year-old boy was killed, and two others were transported to Cape Cod Hospital. Their condition is unknown.

The operator of the Cadillac remained on scene and cooperated with the investigation.

The Yarmouth Police ask the community to keep this family, their loved ones, and first responders in their thoughts.

Yarmouth Police and the Cape Cod Regional Law Enforcement Council Crash Reconstruction Unit are investigating the crash. Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 508-775-0445
