Name released of Massachusetts high school student killed in crash that injured three other classmates

The name has been released of a Massachusetts high school student that was killed in a highway crash.

According to Dave Procopio of Massachusetts State Police, at approximately 9:17 p.m. Thursday, Massachusetts State Troopers responded to a fatal crash on Interstate 495 North in Lawrence, north of Exit 100B.

Preliminary investigation by MSP reveals the following.

A 2022 Dodge Ram pickup truck pulling a fifth wheel camper, operated by a 28-year-old male from Du Bois, Penn., was northbound in the center lane of I-495 in the area of Route 114 in Lawrence.

Simultaneously, a 2005 GMC Envoy operated by an 18-year-old North Andover woman was northbound at a high rate of speed in the area of the truck and camper.

The Envoy veered into the Ram’s lane, making contact with the right side of the camper. The Envoy’s driver then lost control of the vehicle, which left the roadway to the east, tripped on the curb and guardrail, and rolled over down a steep slope behind the guardrail. The vehicle became engulfed in flames.

The 18-year-old operator was ejected onto the road and was subsequently struck by other oncoming vehicles and sustained fatal injuries. Procopio stated that her name is not being released at this time.

A 17-year-old male passenger in the Envoy was also ejected (later in the crash sequence of events) and sustained minor head injuries.

Two passengers in the back seat, a 15-year-old female and a 16-year-old female, suffered minor injuries.

The three surviving occupants of the GMC Envoy were transported to Lawrence General Hospital.

The operator of the RAM truck had no apparent serious injuries.

According to the Principal of North Andover High School Chet Jackson, the four teens that were injured were students at his school.

“Last night, four of our students were involved in a car accident on I-495. One of our grade 12 students, Brenna Caisse, and three other students were driving together when the accident occurred. Sadly, Brenna was killed on impact. This is a tragedy for the Caisse family, our school, and the North Andover community. Our thoughts are with the Caisse family and the families of the other students involved in the accident.

“Brenna had tremendous connections with staff and students at North Andover High School. Our School Crisis Response Team met this morning to outline supports for our students and staff. North Andover High School will be open tomorrow, Saturday, November 11th from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm with counseling resources available for our staff and students. We advise all staff and students who plan on coming to the high school to use the faculty parking lot at the trackside entrance of the high school. Additionally, we will have psychologists, social workers, and counselors available for staff and students on Monday, November 13th when we return to school.”

Others who knew Caisse expressed their heartbreak due to her tragic loss. A life cut way too short.

The facts and circumstances of the crash remain under investigation by the State Police-Andover Barracks, State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, and State Police Crime Scene Services Section.
