District Attorney: Windy conditions cause tree to fall on vehicle in Massachusetts, killing infant
Windy conditions caused power outages, downed power lines, and trees to fall across Massachusetts. One of those fallen trees tragically killed an infant.
On Friday morning just before noon, the Southwick Police Department responded to a serious accident on Feeding Hills Road in Southwick.
According to Hampden District Attorney Gulluni, it appears a tree came down due to heavy wind and crushed the operator’s vehicle. The operator was a 23-year-old female from Winstead, CT.
The Southwick Fire Department responded to the scene and was able to free the operator from the vehicle. She was transported to Baystate Medical Center with serious injuries.
Tragically, the operator’s infant niece, also in the vehicle did not survive the accident.
The ongoing investigation is being conducted by the Southwick Police Department and the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit assigned to the Hampden District Attorney’s Office.
