Massachusetts State Police arrest three after drugs and gun found when car stopped for speeding on Route 24

Massachusetts State Police have arrested three people after drugs and a gun was found after a car was reportedly speeding on Route 24.

According to Massachusetts State Police, shortly before 1:30 a.m. on Saturday, Trooper Thomas Shruhan, assigned to State Police-Milton was patrolling Route 24 in Randolph. After observing a black Chevrolet Tahoe speeding, he stopped the SUV and quickly observed three occupants seated inside. The female operator, Andrea Martin, 39, of Central Falls, R.I., did not possess a driver’s license; the male passengers, Jason Campbell, 49, of Stoughton, and Javon Wooten, 44, of Brockton, were believed to be intoxicated and unable to operate the vehicle.

After a short investigation on scene, Troopers identified a specific bag that one of the passengers placed into the backseat before appearing to distance himself from it. As Trooper Shruhan returned to his cruiser to conduct electronic inquiries on the occupants, Trooper Ryan Smith, who arrived to assist, stayed at the vehicle and kept visual observation of the occupants. As Trooper Smith was facing the front occupants, Campbell, who was seated in the rear, reached down and out of sight. Troopers observed this and removed Campbell from the vehicle and conducted a pat frisk for weapons.

Prior to towing the vehicle from the scene, Troopers developed probable cause to search the vehicle at which point Martin and Wooten were also removed. When Troopers searched the earlier bag in question, they located approximately 50 grams of a substance suspected to be Cocaine. Troopers also located a 9mm P80 Glock-style “Ghost Gun” along with a magazine capable of holding 21 rounds of ammunition. None of the occupants seated in the vehicle were licensed to carry firearms.

All three occupants were placed under arrest and transported to a barracks for booking where a bail commissioner was contacted and set bail at $40 for Martin, and $25,000 for both Campbell and Wooten.

Martin was charged with Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle; Possession of an Open Container of Alcohol; Marked Lanes Violation; and Speeding.

Campbell was charged with Illegal Possession of a Firearm, Second Offense; Possession of Firearm without FID Card, Second Offense; Possession of Ammunition without FID Card; Possession of a Large Capacity Feeding Device; and Failure to Wear Seatbelt.

Wooten was charged with Trafficking in Cocaine; Possession of a Class B Drug; Possession of an Open Container of Alcohol, and Failure to Wear Seatbelt.

They were scheduled for arraignment at Quincy District Court.
