Registration and turn signal violations turn into chase involving Massachusetts State Police

Registration and turn signal violations turned into a police chase this morning involving Massachusetts State Police.

According to Dave Procopio of Massachusetts State Police, Troopers attempted to stop a 2019 Kia Sorrento operated by 46-year-old Joseph A. Lyman of Monterey, Mass, at 6:52 a.m. on the westbound side of the Turnpike in Boston for failure to use a turn signal and the vehicle’s expired registration.

Lyman refused to stop and continued to drive westbound, at times reaching excessive speeds. In Framingham, Lyman hit a tire deflation device deployed by Troopers ahead of his route of flight. The Sorrento hit the “stinger” device and came to a stop moments later. Troopers took Lyman into custody without incident.

Lyman declined medical attention and no injuries were reported.

Lyman is being booked at State Police-Weston on charges of driving an unregistered motor vehicle, failure to stop for police, failure to use turn signals, and refusing to identify himself to police.

He is expected to be arraigned today in Boston Municipal Court.
