Massachusetts COVID-19 hospitalizations highest since March 3rd, 12 new deaths reported

Massachusetts saw an increase in hospitalizations and average positive test rate in Tuesday’s COVID-19 report.

Massachusetts saw 1,566 more positive cases announced today. A decrease from Monday’s report. The 7 day weighted average positive test rate increased from 2.44% to 2.50%. On March 8th, the rate was 1.78%

Massachusetts had seen 2,912 more positive cases announced Monday which was a two day report due to no report being issued on Easter.

The Massachusetts Department of Health statistics show a rise in total confirmed cases to 609,533 with 12 more reported dead (12 confirmed, 0 probable) for a total of 17,337 (16,993 confirmed, 344 probable).

The overall amount of tests administered in Massachusetts is now 19,313,316 after 61,251 new molecular tests.

The 7 day average of confirmed COVID-19 deaths is currently 22.4.

Estimated active cases saw a decrease to 34,652. A 3,600 decrease.

Hospitalizations have increased in 106 of the last 192 days and 81 of the last 151 and saw an increase of 14, to increase the total at 725 the highest since March 3rd. Before the previous two weeks, COVID-19 hospitalizations had been on the decrease as there were 2,428 in the Bay State on January 4th. Late last month’s total of 580 was the lowest since November 7th.

Weekly COVID-19 Public Health Report

According to the April 1st report, Fall River has a 36.1 Average Daily COVID-19 Rate per 100,000 population (Last 14 days) (27.0 last week). New Bedford saw an increase to 31.4 (was 21.9). Westport saw an increase to 23.9 (was 19.6), Swansea is at 21.9 and was 17.9 last week. Somerset also saw an increase as they sit at 20.1 (was 13.1). Freetown stands at 30.0 an increase from 24.5. Dartmouth is currently at 20.2 which is the same as last week. Acushnet saw 21.9 (was 21.2).

55 Massachusetts communities are still in the red (high risk) which is up from 32 last week. 20 were in the red the week before. Abington, Adams, Athol, Ayer, Barnstable, Blackstone, Brewster, Brockton, Canton, Carver, Chicopee, Dennis, Dracut, Everett, Fall River, Framingham, Freetown, Granby, Halifax, Hampden, Hanson, Harwich, Lakeville, Lawrence, Lowell, Ludlow, Lynn, Mansfield, Mashpee, Methuen, Milford, Monson, Nantucket, New Bedford, North Attleboro, Orange, Palmer, Peabody, Pembroke, Plainville, Plymouth, Raynham, Sandwich, Saugus, Seekonk, Southboro, Springfield, Sutton, Templeton, Tyngsboro, Ware, West Boyleston, West Bridgewater, Williamstown, and Yarmouth.
