Fall River residents to stand out throughout the city to bring awareness to impacts of addiction and overdose
Two local organizations are looking to shine a light on addiction and overdose during International Overdose Awareness Month.
On Saturday, August 15, Recover Fall River and Gone Too Soon, two local grassroots groups, invite individuals and family members who have been impacted by addiction and overdose to stand together against stigma.
The event will support families who have lost loved ones and highlight the significant impact of addiction and overdose on not only the individual, but also their families and our entire community.
From 12:00-3:00 p.m. family members, advocates and individuals who have been impacted by addiction and overdose will stand throughout the city. Family members who have previously submitted photos to Recover Fall River will be provided a poster sized enlargements of their lost loved one and citizens are encouraged to join them in support of destigmatizing addiction and overdose.
The groups are looking to make a statement of solidarity against overdose, the country’s leading cause of death for people under the age of 50.
Participants can pick up face coverings, posters and signs outside of City Hall beginning at noon on Saturday. Location assignments will be provided at that time and will be made with social distancing guidelines in mind. Anyone who would like to participate but has physical limitation is invited to bring a chair.
