Fall River Herald News building under agreement
The building that houses the Fall River Herald News staff has been sold.
The 75,000 square foot structure at 207 Pocasset Street had an asking price of $1.2 million and went under agreement January 6th according to the building listing.
Herald News personnel will now share a building with The Standard Times in New Bedford. At least for the time being. According to the paper, the buying process has not been fully completed, but the buyer is in a hurry, therefore leaving them to move the staff to New Bedford. Finding space back in Fall River is the plan, says General Manager Lisa Strattan.
The deal is expected to be closed on by the end of this month.
Gannett Co. (USA Today) recently combined with their rival GateHouse, who owns the Herald News, and has gone under a series of layoffs across the country to streamline their media operations. The layoffs have also resulted in the letting go of long time Herald News personnel.

Was that building built around 1971? If I remember correctly, there was some large gothic looking building being torn down and there were all sorts of bits of colored glass on the ground. Was it a boys club or YMCA?

Nobody replied in two years? The gothic looking building that was torn down was a Boys’ Club, but it was on Anawan, right at the end of Pearl Street, not Pocasset. The Herald building is many years older.
