A fugitive that is a suspect in jewelry store break-ins, a car theft as well as putting a Wareham Police officer in the hospital, is now in custody.

Anthony Vieira, 24, is accused of breaking into multiple businesses early this morning including a jewelry store that he had been accused of breaking into late last year.

Following the break-ins that occurred early this morning, an officer spotted Vieira and tried to arrest him, but Vieira got away due to the amount of watches he was wearing along with assaulting the officer. The officer was injured in the exchange.

At approximately 7 a.m. Friday, Wareham Police arrested Vieira at a home on Charge Pond Road in the town.

Both Fall River and Wareham Police had been searching for the suspect and had sent out a release asking for the public’s help in his capture.

Vieira’s bail was reduced for the 2018 break-in which allowed him to make bail. He failed to show up for his court date and had been on the run since that time.

Vieira was considered dangerous by police and it was believed that Vieira was operating a stolen black Nissan Versa with a Florida registration during his run from the law.
