While most Massachusetts virus metrics increased again in report, deaths continue decline

Massachusetts saw an increase in active cases, cases, and average positive rest rate in Friday’s COVID-19 report.

Massachusetts saw 2,184 more positive cases announced today. An increase from Thursday’s report. The 7 day weighted average positive test rate increased from 2.29% to 2.38%. On March 8th, the rate was 1.78%

Massachusetts had seen 1,938 more positive cases announced yesterday.

The Massachusetts Department of Health statistics show a rise in total confirmed cases to 615,947 with 10 more reported dead (9 confirmed, 1 probable) for a total of 17,376 (17,031 confirmed, 345 probable).

The overall amount of tests administered in Massachusetts is now 19,636,641 after 92,786 new molecular tests.

The 7 day average of confirmed COVID-19 deaths is currently 15.0. At the beginning of February, the average death rate was 70+

Estimated active cases saw a 300+ increase to 35,475.

Hospitalizations have increased in 176 of the last 194 days and 82 of the last 153, but saw a decrease of 24, to lower the total at 711. Wednesday’s total of 755 was the highest since March 3rd. Before the previous 2+ weeks, COVID-19 hospitalizations had been on the decrease as there were 2,428 in the Bay State on January 4th. Late last month’s total of 580 was the lowest since November 7th.

Weekly COVID-19 Public Health Report

According to the April 8th report, Fall River has a 37.2 Average Daily COVID-19 Rate per 100,000 population (Last 14 days) (36.1 last week). New Bedford saw an increase to 36.2 (was 31.4). Westport saw an increase to 28.6 (was 23.9), Swansea is at 29.1 and was 21.9 last week. Somerset also saw an increase as they sit at 27.00 (was 20.1). Freetown stands at 36.3 an increase from 30.0. Dartmouth is currently at 23.3, a jump from last week’s 20.2. Acushnet saw 24.6 (was 21.9).

77 Massachusetts communities are still in the red (high risk) which is up from 55 last week. 32 were in the red the week before and 20 the week before that. Abington, Adams, Athol, Ayer, Barnstable, Billerica, Blackstone, Brewster, Brockton, Carver, Chatham, Chelmsford, Chicopee, Dennis, Dighton, Dracut, East Longmeadow, Edgartown, Everett, Fall River, Framingham, Freetown, Granby, Halifax, Hamilton, Hampden, Hanson, Holyoke, Hopedale, Hull, Lakeville, Lawrence, Littleton, Lowell, Ludlow, Lynn, Mansfield, Mashpee, Methuen, Middleborough, Milford, Monson, Nantucket, New Bedford, Oak Bluffs, Orange, Palmer, Paxton, Peabody, Plainville, Plymouth, Raynham, Rehoboth, Revere, Sandwich, Saugus, Seekonk, Somerset, Southampton, Southboro, Springfield, Sutton, Swansea, Taunton, Tisbury, Tyngsboro, Ware, Wareham, Wenham, West Boyleston, West Bridgewater, West Springfield, Westport, Whitman, Williamstown, Winchendon, and Yarmouth.

Massachusetts Officials have issued a “vaccine doses administered and shipped” report updated on April 8th.

As of April 9th, according to the CDC, the United States has seen 30,814,955 cases of COVID-19 with 557,093 reported deaths.
