Several Fall River crews responded to a serious collision on Friday afternoon.
According to Deputy Chief Barden Castro, on Friday, at just before 1:00 p.m., Fall River Police responded to the intersection of King Philip Street and South Main Street for a motor vehicle crash involving a 39-year-old female bicyclist and a motor vehicle.
The preliminary investigation indicates that the bicyclist was traveling on South Main Street when she entered the intersection of King Philip Street against a red traffic signal. While in the intersection, the bicyclist was struck by a black sport utility vehicle.
The bicyclist was transported by Fall River EMS to Rhode Island Hospital for medical treatment. Her injuries were described as serious.
Members of the Fall River Police Department’s Motor Vehicle Enforcement Unit responded to the scene and have begun an accident reconstruction investigation. All aspects of the collision remain under investigation. Castro stated that once the MVEU completes its investigation, a determination will be made as to whether any citations or criminal charges are appropriate.
