An out of state woman accused of killing one of her young children is drawing comparison to a famous Massachusetts case despite postpartum reportedly not being involved.
According to police, on Tuesday at approximately 4:00 p.m., Frankfort, Illinois Police Officers responded to the 22700 block of Brook Stone Court for a report of an unresponsive juvenile. CPR was being administered by a bystander, and the juvenile was transported to a local hospital for additional treatment where they were later pronounced deceased.
Additionally, officers located the child’s mother, 40-year-old Corie A. Walsh, at the home attempting self-harm. She was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The preliminary investigation indicates this is a domestic related homicide.
Three juveniles were located at the home unharmed.
On Wednesday, an autopsy was performed by the Will County Coroner’s Office.
Following an investigation by the Frankfort Police Department and the Will Grundy Major Crimes Task Force, Walsh has been charged with 3 counts of First-Degree Murder.
According to CBS News, a neighbor discovered the young boy deceased in the basement, and authorities determined the cause of death was asphyxia. Walsh was found upstairs in a bathtub with self-inflicted cuts to her wrists and thighs. Court records say Walsh told police she harmed her son because she believed he was a “devil” and the “anti-Christ,” and she described what happened. Prosecutors also said she had become deeply focused on the Lindsay Clancy murder trial.
Walsh’s lawyer stated that she “was experiencing a psychotic episode.”
She has a court appearance scheduled for Tuesday.
All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. This remains an ongoing investigation and no further details are available.
