Former Fall River nurse killed in bicycle collision loved staying active

Services have been announced for a local woman killed in a collision this week.

According to Bristol County District Attorney Thomas Quinn, III, Dartmouth and Massachusetts State Police were dispatched to the area of 832 State Road in Dartmouth (Route 6 Westbound) at just before noon on Monday after receiving a 911 call. 

Upon arrival, police located a dump truck pulled to the right side of the roadway.   Police investigation revealed a collision had occurred between the truck and a bicyclist. 

The cyclist, a 74-year-old female identified as Denise Olson of Westport, MA, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The dump truck operator remained on scene and was cooperative with police.

According to an obituary, Olson was born in Fall River and “prior to retirement, she worked as a Registered Nurse in the operating room at St. Anne’s Hospital, Fall River. She was a Communicant of St. George Church, Westport, where she served as a Eucharistic Minister. She was an avid gardener, loved staying active, and never missed a social gathering. Denise loved being with her family, her grand and great grandchildren and her many friends.”

The funeral, to which relatives and friends are invited, will be Wednesday, July 22, 2026, from the Potter Funeral Home, 81 Reed Rd., Westport, MA 02790 at 9:00 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. George Church, Westport at 10:00 A.M. Calling hours will be Tuesday from 5-7 P.M. Interment will take place in Beech Grove Cemetery, Westport.

The investigation into this matter is active and ongoing by the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit assigned to the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office along with the Massachusetts State Police, and Dartmouth Police.
