Search for missing dog in Fall River that galvanized community comes to tragic end

The search for a missing Fall River dog has come to a tragic end.

According to the mother of the owner, Naya was a service dog visiting from California that escaped into the unbearable cold on Friday.

“They go everywhere together. Since it’s been painfully freezing outside, she thought it would be best to leave Naya at home while she went to Stonehill College to visit some friends that she hadn’t seen since graduation. Then Naya ran away, into the woods between two houses, and no one has seen her since. We have looked everywhere around the area. We drove around, walked, checked backyards, under cars, walked into the woods – as far as we could. We had neighbors helping, with treats, with their dogs, calling Naya’s name. We called animal shelters, police department, animal control, and left out information but no one has called us, and they are not open yet.”

The search led to several posts on social media garnering hundreds of shares each, including a post on Fall River Reporter, hoping to find the beloved pet as the owner was heartbroken.

Sadly, the ending was not a happy one as the mother broke the news on Facebook that the chihuahua was found deceased.

“Unfortunately, Naya survived the past two freezing nights lost in the woods, only to get hit by a car on the highway this morning, by a m********* who didn’t stop nor call for help.💔 Thanks all who tried helping.”

Our thoughts go out to Naya’s owner at this difficult time.

Sucks to hear but the woman’s reaction to the driver is indicative of the sense of entitlement these days. A dog shouldn’t be on the highway and I’m certainly not stopping to put myself or my property in danger…we’re not talking about residential streets here. Secondly, how can we assume he knew he hit a pet dog? Stop passing blame and take responsibility for not taking proper precautions to keep your dog safe. Again I’m sorry for her loss but let’s be realistic and unselfish ma’am.
