Multiple people sent to New Bedford hospital after 3 vehicle highway crash
Crews responded after multiple people were injured in a multi-vehicle highway crash Monday night.
According to the Lakeville Fire Department, Lakeville firefighters were dispatched to Route 140 just after 9:00 p.m. for the report of a multi-vehicle crash on the southbound side of the highway (MM 14).
Car 1 arrived first and reported three vehicles involved, with debris and damaged vehicles spread across nearly 1,000 feet of roadway. Engine 1 and Ambulance 3 also responded to the scene.
Two injured motorists were identified during the initial scene assessment.
A recall of on-call and off-duty firefighters brought additional resources to the scene, allowing Engine 2 and Ambulance 1 to respond.
Engine 1 and Engine 2 established blocking positions along the highway to protect police officers and firefighters from passing traffic while crews assisted the victims.
Both patients were transported to St. Luke’s Hospital with injuries believed to be non-life-threatening.
Additional recalled firefighters remained in town to provide coverage while crews were committed to the highway.
The crash is under investigation.
