Damaging wind, flooding rain, isolated thunderstorms expected for Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut
Damaging winds and flooding rain is expected to start the week in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut.
According to the National Weather Service, periods of heavy rain with embedded thunderstorms Monday, especially Monday night, may lead to some river and small stream flooding. Poor drainage in urban areas could flood as well.
1.5″ of rain and widespread amounts of rain to 2″ are possible. Isolated thunderstorms could
lead to localized higher rain totals approaching 3″+.
A period of strong to damaging winds is also expected across portions of southern New England Monday night which has resulted in a High Wind Watch being issued.
While winds will be ramping up Monday afternoon, the main concern will be Monday night as a very impressive system develops ahead of a strong cold front and lifts across southern New England.
Wind gusts of up to 60 mph are possible with power outages and tree damage a possibility.
