A Massachusetts man is accused of attempting to light a police vehicle on fire.

According to police, at approximately 9:00 a.m. on Friday, a Lieutenant from the Abington Police Department noticed a male pouring gasoline on the Abington Police Chief’s cruiser. This cruiser was in a marked spot designated for the Chief, located at 215 Central Street.

The suspect, later identified as Franklin Cederholm, a 39-year-old Abington man, was in possession of 2 gallons of gasoline and a lighter. He was taken into custody without incident.

If it weren’t for the quick actions of the members of the Abington Police Department this event could have turned into something catastrophic. While this remains a very active investigation, Cedarholm will be charged with attempted arson, malicious damage to a motor vehicle and trespass. As the investigation progresses, additional charges will be added where appropriate.
