16-year-old Freetown teen honored by Boston Celtics, Boston Red Sox, for saving father’s life
A Freetown teen has been honored by both the Boston Celtics and Boston Red Sox for saving his father’s life.
According to the Boston Celtics, “after a fun-filled outing, 16-year-old Josh Gomes and his family never expected their ride home to become a moment of crisis.”
“While Josh’s dad drove along Route 9, he suddenly went into cardiac arrest and collapsed, sending the car drifting toward a guardrail. Jumping into action, Josh lifted his dad’s leg and pressed it onto the brake. Flagging down a good Samaritan for support, together, they pulled his dad onto the roadside. With no pulse and no time to waste, Josh steadily administered CPR he learned at Bristol Plymouth High School until paramedics arrived to transport his father to the hospital, where he made a remarkable recovery.”
The Boston Celtics, Local 103 IBEW and NECA Boston honored Gomes at a recent home game as part of their “Heroes Among Us” series.
Late in their season, the Boston Red Sox also recognized Gomes at a home game for his heroic efforts.
