Four local men were arrested by police on drug charges after an incident at an area hotel.

According to Westport Police, on Monday, at just after 1:45 p.m., officers were dispatched to the Hampton Inn located at 53 Old Bedford Road.

Staff at the hotel reported having found a bag of suspected drugs in the lobby, which had been dropped by an individual staying at the hotel. After officers arrived on scene, surveillance video was viewed which showed four individuals looking around the lobby and in trash receptacles for the item they had dropped. Staff were able to direct officers to one of the two rooms these individuals had rented.

Once officers made contact with these four men, they were able to confirm their identities. Alexander Rebelo of East Providence, RI; Andrew Massey of Middletown, RI; Robert Noble of Fall River and John Taylor III of Westport, were all located in the same room. Officers observed clothing in the room matching the description of the individual who had dropped the drugs in the lobby. While speaking with officers, none of the men were unable to clearly respond to questions as to what they were doing in the hotel or how then knew each other. When questioned about the item they were looking for, they stated they had lost a cell phone.

A query of the four individuals revealed Rebelo, Massey and Noble had active warrants for their arrest. Statements were made indicating Taylor had sold drugs to one of the men. All men were placed under arrest.

While being transported to the station for booking, Noble and Taylor stated they were having medical issues and were transported to the hospital for evaluation. While at the hospital, Taylor was searched and found to be in possession of 37 grams of suspected methamphetamine, more than 30ml of liquid GHB, three Suboxone strips, along with 3 blue tablets and 7 white tables which were unidentifiable.

During booking, Rebelo was found to be in possession of 8 grams of suspected methamphetamine. He was booked and release on personal recognizance. Massey was booked and transported to the Bristol County House of Correction. He was held on his warrant. Noble was arraigned at the hospital after being admitted. Taylor was transported to the Bristol County House of Correction and held on $25,000 bail.

The Westport Police Department commended the staff of the Hampton Inn for their quick thinking, vigilance, and cooperation during the incident.

“Their ability to monitor the situation and assist officers upon arrival played a crucial role in ensuring a successful outcome.

“Thanks to this teamwork, our officers were able to take three wanted individuals into custody and arrest a fourth on significant drug charges, helping to keep our community and families safer. We are grateful when members of our community come together to support law enforcement efforts. Working hand-in-hand, we make Westport a safer and stronger place for everyone.”
