8-year-old Bristol County boy found out he needs a new kidney; what happened next is magical

There is nothing joyous seeing a young child having to deal with a serious illness. What can be magical though is seeing how a community responds to help the child and family.

According to family members and a GoFundMe fundraiser. on September 6th, 8-year-old Enzo Leone of Easton went in for his regular, yearly checkup. He hadn’t grown as expected, so his pediatrician ordered bloodwork. When labs came back “very abnormal,” Enzo’s parents Sloan & Alex rushed him to Boston Children’s Hospital for further testing. Enzo spent the next 3 days in the hospital to stabilize his electrolytes while Sloan & Alex prepared to take on a difficult treatment plan to manage Enzo’s new diagnosis of Chronic Kidney Disease.

Devastatingly, their follow-up appointment revealed that Enzo has End Stage Renal Disease (kidney failure) and will need a kidney transplant in the very near future.

Enzo has spent the past several weeks in the hospital and is currently undergoing dialysis 3x weekly while he & his family await a plan of action for the transplant.

The fundraiser is to offset the already mounting medical bills & unanticipated travel costs Sloan & Alex are facing. It has already raised over $6,200. As heartwarming as that is, that isn’t the most amazing part of this story.

Once community members realized that a new kidney was needed for Enzo, they stepped up to the plate in a major way. The hospital received over 60 applicants to see if they are a match for Enzo. A figure so large that the hospital asked the family to take the link down so they can go through all of the submissions they currently have.

Sloan took to social media to thank everyone for their support.

“The hospital just called Alex and asked us to remove the post because they already have over 60 applicants. There truly are no words for how heartwarming and amazing that is, from the bottom of our hearts thank you so much.”

“I honestly don’t really have the words to express how blown away I’ve already been by the number of people sharing my post or offering their support for Enzo and our family. The thoughtfulness and generosity of so many of you is incredible and we’re more grateful than I can even say. I’m trying my best to keep up with shares or comments, but I’ll just say here, thank you all so much.”
