5 families displaced after Fall River firefighters extinguish early morning blaze

The Fall River Fire Department extinguished a Tuesday morning blaze that displaced several families.

According to Captain Eric Caffrey, just before 4:00 a.m., the Fall River Fire Department was dispatched to 106 Kilburn Street for a reported structure fire.

Apparatus responding included Car 3, Engine’s 2, 4, and 5, Ladder 2 and Platform 1, and Heavy Rescue 1, on the initial response. Engine 5 was the first company on scene.

Upon arrival, smoke was visible from the three-story wood frame structure with six apartments. Fire could also be seen in a rear window on the second floor.

When the crews advanced hose lines to the second floor, they were meet with large amount of heavy smoke in the stairways.

The fire was contained to one apartment on the second floor, however, there was water damage to the apartment on the first floor.

Car 2 responded as the incident safety officer once a working fire was declared. Additional crews/companies were called to the scene, with a total of 2 Cars, 4 engine, 3 ladders, Heavy Rescue 1, and Squad 11, with Police and Emergency Medical Services.

Last units cleared at 8:29 a.m.

Caffrey stated that there were 5 displaced families including 7 adults and 0 children.

The fire is under investigation.
