A local man was arraigned in Fall River District Court Wednesday after reportedly crashing into a home.

The Swansea Police and Fire Departments responded on October 24th after a pickup truck crashed into a home on Route 6. Following an investigation, Swansea Police arrested the driver on charges including operating under the influence.

According to Swansea Police, at approximately 4:30 p.m., Swansea Police, Swansea Fire and Swansea Ambulance Corps responded to 1228 Grand Army of the Republic Highway following a 911 call reporting that a truck had crashed into a house.

Officers determined that a gray 2022 Toyota Tacoma operated by 45-year-old Douglas Mclane of Swansea had been traveling on Route 6 when it left the roadway and struck the home’s porch and foundation.

The truck’s airbags had deployed. Concerned about a possible gas leak, officers quickly removed Mclane from the vehicle. Swansea Ambulance Corps transported him to Charlton Memorial Hospital for evaluation.

Following an investigation, Mclane was placed under arrest for Operating Under the Influence, Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle, and Marked Lanes Violation.

Firefighters from Rescue 1 and Engine 4 worked to stabilize the damaged porch, assembling cribbing and installing vertical supports beneath the compromised porch roof. The home was determined to be unsafe to occupy.

No people were inside the home at the time of the crash. A dog was inside, and the homeowners returned to the scene and removed it.

Liberty Utilities responded to address a gas leak, and the truck was towed from the scene.

Court records show that Mclane’s arraignment was delayed to Wednesday due to injuries that he sustained. He pled not guilty and was released on personal recognizance with a pretrial hearing scheduled for December 17th.

These are allegations. All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
