A man has died after a serious motor vehicle crash earlier this month in Bristol County.

According to police, at approximately 9:30 p.m. on Sunday August 13th, Raynham Police and Fire responded to a report of a serious crash in the area of the post office on Route 138.

Upon arrival, first responders discovered a grey Ford Focus, a green Nissan Rogue and a yellow Ford F-150 all involved in a head-on collision.

The driver of the grey Ford Focus, a 20-year-old Taunton man, was trapped in the vehicle and had to be extricated by firefighters. Once extricated, he was transported to the Route 138 Walmart parking lot where he was then transported by medical helicopter to Rhode Island Hospital.

The operator of the F-150, a 58-year-old Taunton man, was transported by Brewster Ambulance to Good Samaritan Medical Center.

The driver of the Nissan Rogue, a 45-year-old female from Easton, declined to be transported to the hospital.

According to Daniela Goncalves, her son, 20-year-old Mateus DaCosta, was hospitalized for two weeks in a coma before passing away. She set up a GoFundMe fundraiser for expenses.

Mateus was furthering his education by attending courses to become a licensed plumber, according to an obituary. “In his spare time, Mateus enjoyed playing basketball, riding dirt bikes, cooking, and above all, spending time with and making memories with his family.”

Mateus’s funeral will be held on Wednesday, September 6 at 8:30 a.m. from the Silva Funeral Home 80 Broadway (at Saint Mary’s Square), Taunton with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am in Saint Anthony Church, School Street.

Interment will follow in Saint Joseph Cemetery, Taunton.

Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, September 5th from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the Silva Funeral Home.

The crash remains under active investigation by the accident reconstruction unit of the Raynham Police Department.

Anyone with information or surveillance footage is asked to contact Raynham Police at 508-824-2716.
