2 killed and 2 others injured in Portsmouth crash Friday

On 11/10/2017 shortly after 8:00 p.m., Portsmouth police responded to West Main Road across from Raytheon for the report of a serious motor vehicle accident with injuries. Upon Officers’ arrival, they observed two vehicles in the roadway. The preliminary investigation revealed the vehicle driven by 20 year old Houston Smith of Jamaica Plain MA was traveling southbound on West Main Road. Smith’s vehicle then crossed the double yellow line divider in the roadway and collide with an oncoming vehicle going northbound. Smith was extricated from his vehicle by Portsmouth Fire and taken to Newport Hospital. He was later transferred to Rhode Island Hospital.

The three occupants of the vehicle that were struck were also extricated by Portsmouth Fire and taken to Newport Hospital. 2 of the occupants, a 90 year old Portsmouth woman and a 59 year old Little Compton man died from their injuries. A 58 year old Little Compton woman that was operating the vehicle, was transferred to Rhode Island Hospital due to her injuries.
