16-year-old medflighted in multi-vehicle crash in Raynham

RAYNHAM — Police Chief James Donovan and Fire Chief Bryan LaCivita report that the Raynham Police and Fire Departments responded to a crash on Thursday morning in which they had to use hydraulic rescue tools to extricate a teenager.

On Thursday, Jan. 6, at approximately 7:30 a.m., emergency crews were dispatched to 227 King Street for a report of a crash involving a pickup truck and a Poland Spring water delivery truck.

Upon arrival, first responders found that the two vehicles collided head-on. Crews found the passenger of the pickup truck, a 16-year-old Raynham male, unconscious and trapped inside. The driver of the pickup truck, a 17-year-old Raynham male, was able to get out of the vehicle on their own.

First responders used hydraulic rescue tools to free the passenger, who was then transported by medical helicopter to a hospital in Rhode Island. The driver of the pickup truck was transported by ambulance to an area hospital for treatment. The driver of the water delivery truck, a 54-year-old East Taunton man, did not sustain injuries.

The crash remains under investigation by the Raynham Police Department with assistance from the Massachusetts State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Section. A preliminary investigation indicates that icy road conditions were a factor in the crash.
