Young Massachusetts autistic Walmart employee was robbed by panhandlers; what happened next was magical
While police investigate the robbery of an autistic Massachusetts retail worker, the community has come together to help in more ways than one.
According to police, on Wednesday, August 23rd, three males were panhandling outside of Walmart at Colony Place in Plymouth. At one point, they surrounded an autistic male who works at the Walmart while he was waiting for a ride home. The males continually pressured the autistic man to give them money. They had him go into his wallet three times, which eventually emptied it of $150 dollars.
When Plymouth Chief Flynn found out about the incident, it angered him and put him into action to help along with many members of the community.
On Wednesday, a huge group of people met the young victim, Steven Galandzi on his way out of work. The group included Town Manager Derek Brindisi, Chief Flynn and staff, President of the State Police Association of Massachusetts Patrick McNamara, State Police Officers, Scott Hokanson, owner of Brabo insurance, Cabby Brini, owner of the CabbyShack, Doug and Katie Bartlett, owners of Bartlett Funeral Home, Kenny Drew of Nolan Insurance Agency, Kevin Connolly, owner of B&B Auto, Richard Quintal, Chair of our Selectboard and Owner of Quintal’s/Squinnys, Selectman Charlie Bletzer, Manager of East Bay Grille, Myles Chilchot, Manager of Tracy Chevrolet Cadillac of Plymouth MA, Norm Laviolette, owner of Laugh Boston, The Improv Asylum and the Brockton Rox, and Jimmy Stavropoulous, owner of Anna’s Harborside Grille.
Everyone introduced themselves to Steven and proceeded to hand him big, fat, envelopes, according to PD. They also took turns explaining to Steven that what happened to him will never be accepted in their community.
The Detective Division continues to work the case. So far, the few tips they have gotten have not panned out.
