Worcester siblings sentenced to prison for setting fire to occupied Plymouth County home

BROCKTON – A brother and sister have been sentenced to serve time in state prison after being convicted on charges that they set fire to an occupied Brockton home, Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz has announced.

A jury found Jonathan Jironvil, 26, of Worcester guilty of three counts each of Attempted Murder, Malicious Destruction of Property and Witness.

Intimidation. His sister, Lucnalie Jironvil, 27, of Amherst, was convicted of three counts of Attempted Murder, and one count each of Arson and Malicious Destruction of Property.

At sentencing, the Commonwealth recommended that the Jironvils serve 14-16 years in state prison. Brockton Superior Court Judge William Sullivan sentenced them each to serve 8-10 years.

At approximately 2:30 a.m. on July 18, 2019, Brockton Fire received several 911 calls for a report of a structure fire in a home at 66 Sinclair Road in Brockton. Upon arrival, Brockton Fire officials found the home completely consumed in flames and immediately commenced fire suppression operations. Flames covered the front, back and right side of the building and the fire extended into the attic and crawl space. The home was destroyed, and a neighboring home suffered damage as a result of the fire. Three women in the home at the time that the fire started were able to escape the flames safely.

Brockton Police and Brockton Fire contacted Massachusetts State Police assigned to the Office of State Fire Marshal Peter J. Ostroskey and a joint investigation. commenced. Investigators determined that the fire was intentionally set by the Jironvils, who previously lived at the Sinclair Road home, and they were placed under arrest.

“The actions of the Jironvils in the early morning hours on that date could have easily resulted in the deaths of three residents in that home,” DA Cruz said. “This arson fire’s impact left the victims homeless, and inflicted immeasurable psychological pain, stress, and anxiety on them. The fire also endangered the lives of firefighters who responded to the scene. I commend the work of Brockton Police, Brockton Fire, and the Office of State Fire Marshal Peter J Ostroskey for their thorough investigation which led to this verdict, and justice for the victims.”

The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Alexander Zane.
