A Massachusetts woman was killed and a driver charged in a serious crash Saturday evening.

According to Massachusetts State Police, at 8:08 p.m., Troopers from the Massachusetts State Police Barracks in Oak Bluffs responded to a two-vehicle crash on Beach Road in Tisbury that resulted in the death of one of the operators. The other operator has been arrested for motor vehicle homicide and other charges.

Preliminary investigation by Troopers indicates that a 2002 Nissan sport utility vehicle driven by Zachary A. Dupon, 25, of Oak Bluffs was traveling southbound on Beach Road. According to the evidence, Dupon moved into the northbound lane to pass two southbound vehicles that were in front of him. Dupon passed the other vehicles and then, still going south the northbound lane, struck, head-on, a 2010 Volkswagen Beetle that was traveling northbound.

The operator of the Beetle, Emma Hall, 22, of Oak Bluffs, sustained fatal injuries in the crash and was determined to be deceased on-scene. Two female passengers in the Beetle, a teenager and a young adult, sustained injuries and were transported to Martha’s Vineyard Hospital. One of them was subsequently transported to a Boston Hospital.

Dupon was transported to Martha’s Vineyard Hospital with minor injuries. He was released to State Police custody and booked on charges of motor vehicle homicide by reckless operation, speeding, and marked lanes violation.

He was transported to Dukes County jail where he is being held on $25,000 cash bail pending expected arraignment tomorrow.

Troopers from the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section and the State Police Crime Scene Services Section assisted in the investigation. Local fire and police agencies also assisted in the response.
