A woman is dead after a collision between a pedestrian and train on Thursday morning.

According to the Superintendent of the Transit Police Department, Richard Sullivan, a preliminary investigation suggests at approximately 10:30 a.m. in the vicinity of High Street and Spring Street in Holbrook/Avon, an adult female intentionally entered onto the right of way and was struck by an MBTA Commuter Rail car on the Fall River/New Bedford Line.

The woman has been pronounced deceased as a result of injuries sustained.

The death is one of several recently involving collisions with trains in Massachusetts. Most were intentional by pedestrians.

Fall River/New Bedford Line passengers are experiencing severe delays, and some had to be bussed due to the police activity.

Sullivan stated that TPD detectives along with Norfolk County DA’s Office are investigating the facts and circumstances surrounding the incident.

“On behalf of the Transit Police and the entire MBTA organization we offer our most sincere condolences to the decedent’s family and friends.”
