A woman is dead after a collision between a car and train on Wednesday.

According to the Superintendent of the Transit Police Department, Richard Sullivan, at approximately noon in the vicinity of 242 Centre Street in Abington, an MBTA commuter rail train collided with a private passenger vehicle.

A preliminary investigation suggests the gates were in the down position and the safety warning system was fully engaged when the vehicle being operated by a female proceeded through.

The death is one of several recently involving collisions with trains in Massachusetts. A few at least were intentional by pedestrians.

Sullivan stated that they are still investigating the facts and circumstances surrounding this incident.
