Woman charged for driving drunk with three year old in car

Police arrested a local woman this past weekend after it was believed that she was driving drunk with her young child in the car.

According to Sergeant James Casey, on Sunday at approximately 4:46 p.m, Rehoboth Police dispatch received a call from a resident at 220 Winthrop Street indicating that 22 year old Lia Winslow left the residence with her three year old daughter in the vehicle traveling westbound on Winthrop Street.

It was reported that Winslow was operating a gray Kia Sorento with a Massachusetts registration and that they believed Winslow to be operating under the influence of alcohol. Chief James Trombetta, Ptlm. Gilbert Lima and Ptlm. Scott Sousa responded to the area in an attempt to locate the vehicle, but could not. At approximately 5:37 p.m., however, Chief Trombetta located the gray Kia Sorento in the driveway of 220 Winthrop Street. Sgt. Mark Rossi, Ptlm. Lima and Ptlm. Sousa then responded to the residence.

Winslow consented to taking a Portable Breath Test (PBT) and blew a .234. Ptlm. Lima then spoke with the reporting party who informed Ptlm. Lima that in addition to observing Winslow operate her vehicle from 220 Winthrop Street in what he believed to be a “state of intoxication” with her daughter in the vehicle, he was also in the vehicle on a separate occasion when she also appeared to be driving under the influence. The reporting party agreed to provide a written statement to his observations and Winslow was taken into custody without incident.

Winslow was transported to the Rehoboth Police Station where she was booked. Bail was set at personal recognizance but Winslow was unable to come up with the bail fee. She was then transported to the Bristol County Sheriff’s Department located in New Bedford. Winslow was charged with OUI Liquor and Child Endangerment while OUI.

    If she were a heroin addict, she would be viewed as a “victim.” I can only assume that the exact opposite is being said across social media since it was booze. Social hypocrisy at its finest.
