Winter Weather Advisory issued as snow, sleet, freezing rain expected to hit morning commute

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for the area.

Snow develops south of the MA Pike between 3 and 6 am Tue with a significant impact to the AM commute, before changing to a wintry mix. Lighter snow overspreads northern MA by mid Tue am. Snow/ice continue Tuesday afternoon with a change to rain southeast of I-95.

Mixed precipitation expected. Total snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches and ice accumulations of a light glaze mainly along southeast of the Boston to Providence corridor.

The advisory is in place from 1 AM to 1 PM EST Tuesday.

Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions will impact the morning commute.

Moderate to heavy snow is expected to be in progress during the start of the Tuesday morning commute near and especially south of the Massachusetts turnpike. The precipitation will transition to a brief period of sleet and freezing rain during the morning before transition to all rain.

Slow down and use caution while traveling.
