When it comes to COVID-19, Massachusetts continues to see less cases, less testing, less hospitalizations

Massachusetts saw a decrease in active cases and hospitalizations in Tuesday’s COVID-19 report.

Massachusetts saw 718 more positive cases announced today, an increase from Monday’s report. The 7 day weighted average positive test rate increased to 1.60%. Yesterday’s 1.49% was the lowest since October 20th.

Massachusetts had seen 481 more positive cases announced yesterday. The lowest since October.

The Massachusetts Department of Health statistics show a rise in total confirmed cases to 648,967 with 5 more reported dead (5 confirmed, 0 probable) for a total of 17,644 (17,293 confirmed, 351 probable).

The overall amount of tests administered in Massachusetts is now 21,571,842 after 36,039 new molecular tests.

The 7 day average of confirmed COVID-19 deaths decreased by 2.4 to 7.3. At the beginning of February, the average death rate was 70+.

Estimated active cases saw a decrease by 1400+ to 23,676. In the last 14 days, active cases have decreased by almost 10,900.

Hospitalizations have increased in 90 of the last 176 days, but saw a decrease of 6 to lower the total to 516. Hospitalizations have decreased in 12 of the last 14 days after a period of mainly increases. There were 2,428 in the Bay State on January 4th. Today’s total of 516 active hospitalizations is the lowest since November 5th.

Weekly COVID-19 Public Health Report

According to the April 29th report, Fall River has a 25.8 Average Daily COVID-19 Rate per 100,000 population (Last 14 days) (32.4 last week). New Bedford saw a decrease to 35.0 (was 36.9). Westport saw a decrease to 22.6 (was 23.5), Swansea is at 26.4, a decrease, and was 34.0 last week. Somerset saw a decrease as they sit at 17.4 (was 25.8). Freetown stands at 19.7 a decrease from 22.1. Dartmouth is currently at 18.7, a decrease from last week’s 22.3. Acushnet increased to 30.1 (was 24.6). Berkley has the highest rate in Bristol County at 39.8 and was 48.2 last week.

26 Massachusetts communities are still in the red (high risk) which is down from 48 last week. 59 were in the red the week before. Acushnet, Berkley, Brockton, Chicopee, Dracut, Edgartown, Fall River, Hampden, Haverhill, Lawrence, Littleton, Lowell, Lynn, Methuen, Nantucket, New Bedford, Palmer, Revere, Southbridge, Southwick, Springfield, Taunton, Tisbury, Wareham, Winchendon and Yarmouth.

Massachusetts Officials have issued a “vaccine doses administered and shipped” report updated on April 29th.

As of May 4th, according to the CDC, the United States has seen 32,267,958 cases of COVID-19 with 574,679 reported deaths.
