A local man is facing several charges after being arrested over the weekend.

According to Westport Police, on Sunday at approximately 2:00 a.m., Officers Jean Lopez, Michael Chicca and Sean Munzing along with Sergeant Ryan Nickelson were dispatched to the area of Reed Road for a disturbance.

Upon their arrival, they were made aware of an individual, later identified as Tyson Cleaves, who had allegedly broken into the residence and assaulted the female inside.

Cleaves was known to the officers as having 4 active warrants for his arrest.

The owner of the property stated he believed Cleaves was still inside the residence. Officers searched for Cleaves, finding him hiding in a bedroom closet. He was immediately placed under arrest without incident and transported to the Westport Police Station for booking.

A bail commissioner was contacted and Cleaves was ordered held without bail.

Cleaves was charged with Aggravated Burglary after having broken into the residence at nighttime and then assaulting an individual within the home. He was also charged with Suffocation/Strangulation, Assault and Battery and Intimidation of a Witness. He was arraigned on the charges Monday morning at Fall River District Court.

He did the same thing to me twice. Had a restraining order for 5 years. This past year the judge dropped it telling me he wasn’t a threat. Hopefully they take it seriously before he kills someone. The sad thing is he wasn’t always like this but something has gone wrong and he needs some serious help.

I’ve known Tyson for over 34 years and I’m shocked to hear this. We used to hang out when we were younger. He was always a chill, polite guy. Every few years I run into him at a restaurant, gas station, etc. and he was always a respectable guy. Maybe he needs this time to re-evaluate his situation. Until I hear both sides I’m not going to judge. Sure his rap sheet is relatively new. I’m not minimilizing what he may have done. Jus’ Sayin’
