Westport Police arrested a man after being out of control with a baseball bat Sunday.

According to Detective Jeff Majewski, on Sunday July 8 at approximately 3 a.m., the Westport Police received an emergency call from 433 Cornell Road regarding an intoxicated and out of control male. That male was identified as 49-year-old Timothy Croke of that address.

Officer Robert Reed arrived first and heard screaming from inside the house and heard someone say “he is going to kill us”. Officer Reed approached the front door and saw a male exit the rear of the house with what he believed was a baseball bat. A male and a female in the house confirmed he had brandished a baseball bat and had damaged furniture, shattered a glass door, and flipped over a refrigerator. Officers Nick Frustaci and Doug Wenson arrived and went to the backyard where Croke ran into the woods.

The officers heard the clanging of the metal baseball bat and heard Croke yelling that he would smash anyone’s head who came in the woods after him.

Officers located Croke about 150 feet in the woods where he was hiding under some brush. Croke refused to comply with police commands and he struggled with police while being handcuffed. A Taser was deployed in order to handcuff him. Croke had scratches on him and the Westport FD Ambulance was called to the scene where he refused medical treatment.

Croke later told an officer that he would have hit him with the bat if he knew he would be Tasered.

Westport Police recovered a bent metal baseball bat that was located about 20 feet away from where Croke was hiding in the woods.

Croke was charged with multiple counts of Assault with a Dangerous weapon along with Malicious destruction of property. He was released on personal recognizance until his arraignment. At arraignment he was held pending a Dangerousness hearing at the Fall River Justice Center.
