An off-duty police officer combined with EMS and responding officers to save the life of a boy in Fall River.
According to Det. Sergeant Moses Pereira, at approximately 7:15 p.m., officers responded to a residence on Huard Street after receiving a report that a 12-year-old child was not breathing.
Upon arrival, officers discovered that off-duty officer, Mohammed Adelakun, who lives nearby, became aware of the situation, and responded to assist.

The boy was breathing, but non-responsive when Officer Adelakun arrived.
Officers tended to him until Medical Rescue arrived, at which time he was transported to St. Anne’s Hospital for medical attention. He remains under observation at the hospital.

If he was breathing how did they save his life????
You conflated two different things.
1) Family called 911 to report that their child was breathing.
2) Officer arrived to find the child breathing but non-responsive.
Conclusion: the family members who were in a panic and not medical experts were wrong or the child was in fact not breathing, but whatever caused him to not breathe – an obstruction like a piece of food perhaps – resolved itself before the officer arrived.
