Westport crash seriously injures local business owner
An owner of a Westport business and another were injured Friday evening in an ATV accident.
Eric Abate, owner of A & E Metals at 449 American Legion Highway (Route 177), and another victim, were out on a quad in woods that were located near the business at approximately 8:30 p.m. when they hit something that caused a crash. Eric became unconscious in the crash.
After the crash, the other victim allegedly crawled to the roadway for help. An EMT that lived near by could hear someone calling for help and assisted. After a search, responders discovered Abate in the woods semi-conscious.
A medflight was initially requested, but Eric was instead transported to Rhode Island Hospital. The other victim was transported to Hasbro Children’s Hospital according to police.
Fall River assisted in response to the crash.
A source has told Fall River Reporter that Eric was in critical condition as of Friday, although Westport Police could not confirm the condition of either party.
The crash is being investigated by the Massachusetts Environmental Police along with the Westport Police Department.
