Water main, bridge replacement operations to take place on Brightman Street Bridge for combined 4 months

FALL RIVER – The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) is announcing that it will be conducting water main and bridge superstructure replacement operations on Brightman Street over Mass Coastal Rail Road in Fall River. All work will be conducted on weekdays during the hours of 7:00 a.m. through 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The water main replacement work is scheduled to begin on Monday, September 28, 2020, and is anticipated to be completed by Tuesday, October 13, 2020. The work will require the use of standard traffic management set-ups and police details, as needed.

The superstructure replacement work on the Brightman Street Bridge is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, October 13, 2020, and is anticipated to be completed by January 31, 2021. The work will require a temporary detour. Message boards will be in place two weeks prior to use of detour at the intersections of Brightman Street and Lindsey Street and Brightman Street and North Main Street to notify the public.

The detour will be as follows:

Approaching from the east side of the Brightman Street Bridge

Take Brightman Street to North Main Street
Turn left on North Main Street to Cove Street
Turn left on Cove Street to Fulton Street
Turn left on Fulton Street and end on Brightman Street

Approaching from the west side of the Brightman Street Bridge

Take Brightman Street to Fulton Street
Turn right on Fulton Street to Cove Street
Turn right on Cove Street to North Main Street
Turn right on North Main Street and end on Brightman Street

Drivers who are traveling through the affected areas should expect delays, reduce speed, and use caution.

All scheduled work is weather dependent and/or may be impacted due to an emergency situation.
