The Fall River Police Department has released more details and body cam footage concerning an incident which occurred on
October 18, 2023, at 1620 President Avenue.

According to Det. Sergeant Moses Pereira, the video contains redactions since the group is comprised of juveniles.

“While it is not our normal practice to release body worn camera footage of an incident. This footage is being released in the interest of transparency, accountability, and whereas the public interest has been taken into consideration. Upon review of the video, you will see that, at the request of the manager, officers advised the crowd that they were to exit the restaurant if they had not already purchased food. This was because they had engaged in fighting and other disorderly behavior in the parking lot prior to entering the restaurant. This behavior resulted in multiple calls for service being placed to the Fall River Police Department. As officers repeatedly warned the group that they needed to leave the restaurant or face arrest for trespass, they were met with confrontation. Their warnings were ignored and a juvenile who had already been spoken with exited the restaurant only to immediately return through a separate entrance. That individual was then placed under arrest for trespassing. Officers showed great restraint, with the initial responding officer issuing over 23 warnings to the group prior to making any arrests. In total 8 arrests were made.”

Perreira stated that the following arrests were made.

• Juvenile 1- Trespass, Resisting arrest
• Juvenile 2- Trespass, Disorderly conduct, Disturbing the peace, Resisting arrest
• Juvenile 3- Trespass, Resisting arrest (2 counts)
• Juvenile 4- Trespass

Good job. Get restraint when dealing with nitwits. Joe Q Public should walk in an officers shoes to see what it’s like. That way Mr Public wouldn’t be so quick in being a Monday morning quarterback.

Yeah, Monday morning quarterbacking isn’t fair when we’re talking about top-notch law enforcemet officers like Nick Hawes, Michael Pessoa, Bryan Custodio, etc.

Nice job community policing FRPD. Some young POC tried to eat at a restaurant and were brutally assaulted.

For decades the white children of the Highlands hung out, drank, played music, and caused havoc in that same parking lot and nothing was ever done.

Fall River just embarrassed itself and exposed the racism rooted deep within the city.

A young man was beaten and thrown to the ground during a teachable moment. A young womyn brutally assaulted.

Yes, the children should have left. They’re impresionable and imitate what they see on tv and all fear police after the murders of George Floyd, Freddy Grey, and Brianna Taylor.

Notice also there were no officers of color. Children are more responsive if authority figures look like they do.

    Sad day for the city.

Wrong. Just because you don’t see a colored cop doesn’t mean there wasn’t one there.
And back in the day, white kids AND black kids complied when cops told them to leave because they weren’t stupid. These kids think they know their rights but they don’t know the law

Yeah another racist demagogue. It’s always the white person’s fault when a person of color acts inappropriately. Good job there brain dead Pocahontas!

Why weren’t the children’s fathers called to the scene?

Also, why did the student keep referring to the officer with the N word? Doesn’t he understand that’s a word so offensive it should never be used?

I blame the administrators and teachers in the Fall River school system. They’ve obviously failed these students.

It’s clear the police showed plenty of restraint. They gave students repeated warnings. The students chose to ignore the warnings, and the police did their job. Thank you FRPD.
