VIDEO: East Bridgewater Police investigating hit-and-run collision after car crashes into 11-year-old

EAST BRIDGEWATER — Chief Michael Jenkins reports that the East Bridgewater Police Department is investigating a hit-and-run crash involving a juvenile riding a bicycle that occurred this past weekend.

On Sunday, Oct. 15 at 5:32 p.m., East Bridgewater Police received a 911 call reporting a crash involving a bicyclist and a motor vehicle in the area of 143 Bedford St.

An initial on-scene investigation indicated that the juvenile victim, an 11-year-old girl, was struck by a vehicle while riding a bicycle through a small path that leads from Route 18 to the rear parking lot of Central Elementary School.

The juvenile was evaluated on scene by East Bridgewater Fire paramedics. The juvenile’s mother responded to the scene and declined medical transportation on behalf of her daughter.

Through a continued investigation, the East Bridgewater Police Department determined that a blue SUV, possibly a 2023-2024 blue Lexus NX, entered the Central School parking lot from Central Street and attempted to use the parking lot as a cut-through to Bedford Street. The vehicle then turned around and began traveling toward the Central Street entrance. The vehicle struck the juvenile, pushing her approximately 60 feet. The vehicle is not believed to have been traveling at a high rate of speed.

A female driver, wearing blue hospital-type scrubs, exited the vehicle, spoke to the victim, and left the scene.

The crash remains under investigation by the East Bridgewater Police Department. Anyone with information on this incident, or information on the vehicle involved, is asked to call East Bridgewater Police at 508- 378-7223.
