Victim’s names released in double fatal crash in Raynham
RAYNHAM — Police Chief James Donovan and Fire Chief Bryan LaCivita report that the Raynham Police and Fire Departments responded to a fatal single-vehicle crash this morning.
At approximately 11:45 a.m. on Friday, Raynham Police and Fire responded to the area of 380 Pleasant Street for a report of a serious motor vehicle crash. Upon arrival, first responders found a sedan that had crashed into a tree and was on fire.
Prior to first responders’ arrival, bystanders who witnessed the crash pulled 78-year-old Richard Bentley and 80-year-old Mary Bentley, both of Taunton, out of the car. Firefighters on scene extinguished the fire.
The driver, Richard Bentley, was transported by the Bridgewater Fire Department via ambulance and Mary Bentley was transported via medical helicopter to area hospitals.
Both Bentleys were later pronounced dead at the hospital.
The crash remains under investigation by State Police assigned to the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office and Raynham Police detectives and the accident reconstruction unit.
