TAUNTON — Chief Edward Walsh and Superintendent Alexandre Magalhaes report that the Taunton Police Department responded to a bomb threat at Bristol-Plymouth Regional Technical School Tuesday morning.

At approximately 10:45 a.m., Taunton Police received a report from school officials that someone had written a threatening note that made mention of a bomb on the wall of a bathroom in the high school.

The note was discovered by a student and reported to school officials, who immediately called police.

Because the threat mentioned a specific time, the school was evacuated prior to the arrival of police out of an abundance of caution.

Once officers arrived, police searched the school with the assistance of a Massachusetts State Police bomb sniffing K-9. The Taunton Fire Department also responded to the scene. After a search of the exterior and interior of the high school, the threat was determined to not be credible and no devices were located.

No one was injured as a result of the incident.

At approximately 12:30 p.m., police cleared the scene and the school resumed its normal operations.

“School staff and students did a great job of evacuating the building prior to our arrival,” Chief Walsh said. “We take all threats seriously and thankfully this one was quickly determined to not be credible. I want to thank the State Police for their assistance in the investigation.”

The incident remains under investigation by the Taunton Police and Bristol-Plymouth school officials.

“We are thankful for the quick response of the Taunton Police and their thorough search of the school,” Superintendent Magalhaes said. “I want to commend the student that saw the note and immediately notified school officials. Every situation like this needs to be taken seriously and the safety of our students and staff is our top priority.”
