Update on alleged pipe bomb in vehicle on Bank Street in Fall River
On April 13th at approximately 7:30 a.m., Fall River Police Officer Rory McCoomb was investigating a vehicle parked in a no-parking zone on Bank Street. Bank Street is under reconstruction and had been posted a no-parking zone all week. Upon inspection of the vehicle, a 1999 Chevrolet Tracker, Officer McCoomb observed a phone charger plugged in with it’s wire running to objects in the back seat. These objects were wrapped in aluminum foil. Officer McCoomb called for additional resources and the area was evacuated.
Bomb technicians from Massachusetts State Police, as well as the Federal Bureau of Investigations, responded and after their investigation, the objects were determined to be consumer-grade fireworks. Massachusetts State Police confiscated the fireworks.
As the investigation was ongoing, a male approached stating the 1999 Chevy was his and that he only had fireworks in the vehicle. Lawrence Crump, 40 of Boston, will be summoned to court to answer to a charge of Unlawful Possession of Fireworks.
