Update issued on teen brothers seriously injured in icy crash

A serious crash Tuesday morning has left two teens seriously injured and the school that they are currently enrolled in has issued an update on their progress.

According to Bourne Police, at approximately 7:19 a.m. Tuesday, Bourne Police responded to a motor vehicle crash on MacArthur Blvd/Route 28 North, north of Barlows Landing Road.

The crash involved two boys that had slid off the roadway and into a tree.

The Bourne Fire Department had to use mechanical means to free the two students.

According to Upper Cape Cod Tech, both teens, who are brothers, are in the Pediatric ICU at Hasbro Children’s Hospital in Rhode Island. They are still in critical, but stable, condition, both lightly sedated. The older brother, 17, has opened his eyes and given his family a “thumbs ups” and the younger brother, 14, has responded to stimuli. As of 11:45 a.m. The younger brother is also awake and has had the ventilator removed and is breathing on his own.

According to family, both boys have head injuries and one of the boys has various other injuries including several fractures.

The crash remains under investigation.
