A gas leak is currently in the process of being repaired in the city.

According to Mayor Paul Coogan, his office spoke with Liberty Utilities and they advised him that a gas leak has occurred in a high pressured gas line in the area of the 2300 block of Highland Avenue during site work.

Coogan stated that gas has been turned off to approximately 200 customers in the area of the leak.

“Once the repairs are made and the main is re-energized, all 200 customers will require an individual visit to their properties to reignite their service.”

There has been no damage or loss of property, according to Coogan, and no evacuations of homes and businesses have occurred.

“Liberty Utilities is working to restore service in a safe, timely and efficient manner.”

According to a statement from Liberty Utilities, service is expected to be restored by midnight.

If you smell gas or have any concerns regarding gas service call their emergency line at 1-800-936-7000.

All of Liberty Utilities technicians will have photo identification. If you are concerned about letting anyone in your home, ask to see identification or call local police if you feel you are in immediate danger.

As of 7:30 p.m., crews have begun restoring service.
