UPDATE: At least 9 injured in multi-vehicle crash on I-95 in Attleboro
A multi-vehicle crash on Route 95 in North Attleboro resulted in the closure of the highway and several injured.
Preliminary investigation by Trooper Michael Best indicates that at about 6:20 a.m. this morning, a 29-year-old Roslindale woman was traveling in the right travel lane on Route 95 Southbound, north of Exit 5 in North Attleboro in a 2010 Toyota Corolla when, for reasons still under investigation, her vehicle traveled into the middle lane, striking a 2016 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck. Following that collision, both vehicles traveled to the left, across the median, and entered the northbound travel lanes, striking and/or causing collisions with six other vehicles which included a 2007 Hyundai Tuscon, a 2016 Kia Optima, a 2004 Volvo S40, a 2017 Nissan Rogue, a 2004 Toyota Camry, and a 2005 Honda Odyssey.
The operator of the Toyota and her passenger, a 25-year-old Brockton woman, were transported to Rhode Island Hospital for treatment of serious injuries. The operator of the Silverado, a 38-year-old Tewksbury man, was transported to Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro for treatment of minor injuries. The operator of the Hyundai, a 57-year-old Pawtucket, R.I. woman, the operator and passenger of the Kia Optima, a 29-year-old Randolph man and 25-year-old Attleboro woman respectively, the operator of the Volvo, a 55-year-old Southington, C.T. woman, the operator of the Nissan Rogue, a 26-year-old Pawtucket, R.I. woman, and the operator of the Honda Odyssey, a 25-year-old Providence, R.I. woman, were all transported to R.I. Hospital and Sturdy Memorial Hospital for treatment of injuries ranging from minor to serious.
The cause of this crash remains under investigation with assistance from the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, Crime Scene Services Section, Troop H detectives, and troopers assigned to the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office. No charges have been filed at this time.
State Police were assisted on scene by North Attleboro, Plainville, and Mansfield Fire and EMS, North Attleboro Police, and MassDOT.
Route 95 Northbound was completely closed for about an hour for investigation and cleanup. The scene was completely clear at about 8:30 a.m.
