Two transported to the hospital after significant multi-vehicle crash in Swansea
SWANSEA — Chief Marc Haslam reports that the Swansea Police Department is investigating a two-car crash that occurred earlier this morning on Hornbine Road.
Just before 11:00 a.m., Swansea Police received a report of a two-car crash in the area of 71 Hornbine Road.
Upon arrival, first responders found a 2007 Dodge Nitro in the roadway with significant front-end damage. The driver, later identified as a 50-year-old Swansea man, was found sitting outside his vehicle.
The second vehicle, a 2016 Chevrolet Silverado, was found off the road in the woods. The driver, a 31-year-old Swansea man, was also outside of his car at the time of first responders’ arrival.
Both drivers were transported by the Swansea Ambulance Corps to local hospitals with injuries sustained from the crash.
The preliminary investigation indicates that the Dodge Nitro was traveling south on Hornbine Road at a high rate of speed when it crossed over the double yellow lines to pass a vehicle and subsequently struck the Chevrolet Silverado who was travelling north.
The crash remains under investigation by Patrolman Andrew Pelletier, the Swansea Police Crash Reconstruction Unit and the Swansea Police Detective Unit.
