Two Taunton officers seriously injured after being hit in crash
TAUNTON — Chief Edward J. Walsh reports that the Taunton Police Department is investigating an incident earlier this evening where two officers were injured while responding to a motor vehicle accident.
According to the Taunton Police Department, at 5:50 p.m., officers responded to the scene of a motor vehicle crash at the intersection of Route 140 and Taunton Depot Drive. At 6:15 p.m., while the officers were conducting an on-scene investigation, a Volkswagen Beetle came through the crash scene and struck the officers.
The officers were immediately treated by Taunton Fire and other Taunton Police officers on-scene. One officer was taken to a local hospital and the other was taken to a Rhode Island Hospital for treatment. Their injuries are considered serious but not believed to be life-threatening. Their names are not being released at this time, according to TPD.
The driver of the Volkswagen Beetle stopped the vehicle following the crash and fully cooperated with the investigation. The driver was not injured.
The cause of the incident is under investigation by the Taunton Police Department.
